Meta puts an 816B open model on two Mac Studios
Meta has released the weights for Muse Spark Open, which it calls the most capable US open-weight model to date. It is a natively multimodal mixture-of-experts model with 816B total parameters, 42B active per token, and a 1M-token context window, aimed at coding and long-horizon agent work. The headline trick is local: built with Apple's MLX, it runs across two M5 Ultra Mac Studios with 512GB each, which Meta says behave like one machine with a terabyte of unified memory. Weights are on Hugging Face, SageMaker, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry, with hosted APIs from OpenRouter, Groq, Together and others. For developers, frontier-class agents on a desk rather than in a rented cluster just got a lot more real.

Congress questions Meta's data center tax credits. Five senators wrote to Mark Zuckerberg asking how much of Meta's $6.6B in federal R&D tax credits from 2023 to 2025 went to AI data centers, and a bipartisan House group raised the same concern with Treasury. Meta says the new facilities need real-world experimentation. Senate letter ยท Semafor
